Neda: More traders to tap Cebu market

WITH Central Visayas’ continuing economic growth, a National Economic Development Authority (Neda) official is expecting more businesses to set up shop in Cebu.

Neda Asst. Regional Director Efren Carreon told Cebu Daily News yesterday that the reduced poverty incidence in the region from 31.6 percent in 2009 to 28.8 percent as of April this year is the reason for his optimism.

A poverty incidence rate is the share of the population whose income is below the poverty line.

“The poverty incidence among families in the region has been going lower, which means lives are improving. This is because of the many jobs now created allowing people to earn more income for the family,” Carreon said.

This development will fuel more interest for businesses to come and sell their products in Cebu, he said.

“We expect more to come here not only the real estate developers but also those selling goods like retailers because the Cebu market has grown and is expected to continue to grow,” he said. /Reporter Aileen Garcia-Yap
