IF reports reaching Vice Governor Agnes Magpale are true, illegal drugs continue to be sneaked into the Cebu Provincial Detention and Rehabilitation Center (CPDRC).
Magpale said she wants to check whether some inmates are using illegal drugs while detained inside the provincial jail.
“I’m interested in reports that illegal drugs continue to be brought inside the jail. I was told that women are used as couriers for these prohibited drugs,” she told reporters yesterday.
Magpale said matters on jail policies, however, are under the executive body.
Last Sunday, CPDRC inmate Jupiter Sasing was found dead beside his bed. Sasing was believed to have committed suicide.
Jail officials wanted to subject Sasing’s body to an autopsy. However, the inmates’ family declined.
Sasing was charged in court for possession of illegal drugs. His fellow inmates had told jail authorities that Sasing and his wife had argued days before the incident. /reporter Ador Vincent S. Mayol
