PNP to give full honors to former chief Mendoza

MANILA, Philippines – Full honors will be given to former Philippine National Police chief Leandro Mendoza, who died of heart attack early Monday.

Senior Superintendent Reuben Theodore Sindac, PNP-Public Information Office chief, said the honors will be accorded to Mendoza in accordance with PNP protocol, customs and tradition.

“The 148,000-strong officers, men and women of the Philippine National Police mourn the passing of General Leandro R. Mendoza,” Sindac said.

Mendoza served as chief of the PNP from 2001 to 2002. He was a member of PMA Class 1969.

Sindac said Mendoza died of complications associated with the stroke that he suffered last year inside his house in Paranaque City.

General Mendoza was survived by wife Soledad and children Maria Leah, Michael, Mark Llandro, Maria Leilani, Matthew and Maria Leanne.

Further announcements will be made regarding details of the funeral arrangements in coordination with the bereaved family, Sindac said.
