USC girls, boys spikers make it to Cesafi finals

THE YOUNG spikers of the University of San Carlos (USC) formalized their entry into the championship round of the girls high school division in the 2013 Cesafi volleyball tournament after they bested the Sacred Heart School-Ateneo de Cebu (SHS-AdC) the other day at the University of San Jose-Recoletos (USJ-R) gym in Basak.

USC continued on their undefeated run through the tournament as they beat the much-improved Magis Eagles, 25-12, 25-14.

They are set to collide with Southwestern University (SWU) for the title in a best-of-three series that will start on Tuesday evening at the Aznar Coliseum.

In the boys’ division, USC also made it to the finals after registering two crucial wins in their last two games of this round.

After starting the semis with a loss, the Baby Warriors swept the rest of their games, first with a 25-18, 25-19 win over Don Bosco last Saturday before defeating the University of Southern Philippines-Foundation (USP-F), in a three-set thriller yesterday, 23-25, 29-27, 25-12.

The win gave them a 2-1 (win-loss) record and forged a three-way tie with the defending champions USJ-R and USP-F. USJ-R and USC claimed the finals berths with quotients of 1.168 and 1.141, respectively. USJ-R and USC begin their best-of-three finals series on Wednesday. /Correspondent Jonas Panerio
