MANILA, Philippines – Two robbers were killed in Quezon City Friday night in a shootout with policemen who chanced upon them robbing an off-duty female security guard of her purse, which turned out to contain no more than P40 in cash.
Police Officer 2 Anthony Tejero, case investigator, said the robbery occurred around 7:40 p.m. as the woman, whose identity the Philippine Daily Inquirer was withholding out of respect for her privacy, was walking home on Lantayan Street in Barangay (village) Doña Imelda.
The woman told police that as she walked by two men who appeared to be fixing a motorcycle, one of them pointed a gun at her face and demanded her bag. Both men then hopped on their motorcycle just as policemen in a patrol car arrived and chased them, according to Tejero.
The cops caught up with the robbers and told them to surrender, but they chose to shoot it out instead and were killed, Tejero said. The patrolmen from the Galas police station recovered two .38-caliber revolvers from the unidentified slain men, who appeared to be 35-40 years old, Tejero said.
Also recovered from them was the woman’s bag, which the policemen returned to its owner. Among other things, it contained the woman’s IDs and P40 in cash, Tejero said.
