MANILA, Philippines—A portion of a building housing the Commission on Elections (Comelec) headquarters in Manila was hit by fire Saturday.
The fire broke out on the sixth floor of Palacio del Gobernador building at Intramuros, Senior Fire Officer 4 Lewi Santos said in a radio report.
The fire began at 12:03 p.m. but was put out less than 20 minutes later.
Fire investigators have yet to determine the cause of the blaze and the amount of damage it caused.
Comelec spokesman James Jimenez clarified that the 6th floor of Palacio del Gobernador is not part of the poll body’s office.
The incident occurred as the poll body is in the thick of preparations for the upcoming barangay elections on October 28.
