Militant groups join ‘Million People March’

MANILA, Philippines—Militant groups began their march to the Ninoy Aquino statue on Ayala Avenue corner Paseo de Roxas in Makati City Friday.

The protesters from the groups Gabriela, Kilusang Mayo Uno, Migrante, Bayan Muna, Piston, among others, will convene with other groups in the Ayala Triangle for the “Million People March 2” rally.

The groups reiterated their call for the abolition of the pork barrel system, which they say is a source of corruption in the government.

Fr. Joe Dizon, convenor of the Abolish Pork Movement, said, “We are holding President Aquino ultimately accountable for the entire pork fund mess.”

“It is within his power to push for changes in the system yet he stubbornly refuses to do so, and instead promotes the system of pork,” Dizon said.
