In compliance with the National Greening Program that aims to plant 1.5 billion trees within six years, the Gardenia Bakeries Philippines Inc. participated in the tree planting activity held in Adlaon, Cebu City in cooperation with Pollution Control Association of the Philippines Central Visayas (PCAPI).
The tree planting activity was headed by Gardenia corporate relations manager Mary Ann Cabrera and community relations supervisor Quennie Comple, with Gardenia Cebu OIC Darius Panganiban and marketing staff Jerome Lim.
Antonio Atillo, PCAPI public relations officer and acting chairman, together with other members were also present.
During the activity, Edmund Gacis, Coffee Technical Supervisor of Nestle-Agri Services for Visayas, explained and demonstrated the proper handling and planting of coffee trees, specifically Robusta sp.
Coffee tree was chosen by the group as this can be a source of income to the residents.
To ensure survival, the residents and PCAPI will monitor and nurture the more than 1,000 coffee trees in a one-hectare lot in Adlaon, a mountain barangay in Cebu City.
