SWU lady spikers near finals
THE Southwestern University Lady Cobras took a step closer to claiming one of the two finals berths when they struck down the University of San Jose-Recoletos Lady Jaguars in four sets last Tuesday night in the semifinal round of the 2013 Cesafi volleyball tournament at the Aznar Coliseum.
Denied of their fourth straight title last year by the upstart University of San Carlos, SWU has reloaded this year and have been unbeatable. Still, they had to weather a ferocious stand by USJ-R in the first set before sweeping the next three for the 25-27, 25-23, 25-20, 25-13 win, their second in this single round-robin semis.
The loss though, doubly hurt USJ-R’s chances of making it to the finals as it was their second defeat in a row following their loss at the hands of Cebu Doctor’s University.
Meanwhile in the high school division, the defending champions USJ-R kept their hopes for the finals alive with a 25-15, 25-13 win over the Sacred Heart School-Ateneo de Cebu. /Correspondent Jonas Panerio
