USJ-R, USC set up final showdown in Cesafi tertiary football tourney

TERTIARY division defending champions University of San Jose-Recoletos (USJ-R) will face arch rival University of San Carlos (USC) this Sunday in the championship match of the Cebu Schools Athletic Foundation Inc (CESAFI) football competition at the Cebu City Sports Center field.

USJ-R and USC advanced to the final despite contrasting fates in their non-bearing final elimination round games yesterday. USJ-R crushed Don Bosco Technology Center (DBTC), 5-0 while USC bowed to University of Cebu (UC), 3-5.

USJ-R’s Gibb Agravante accounted for two of the Jaguars’ goals while Riko De Guzman, Junifer Ebero and Julius Ramirez added a goal each.

USJ-R remained the second seed in the tertiary division despite the win while USC retains top seeding despite losing to UC which leaned on the three goals of Nigerian Elihibiri Kingsley. UC also got goals from Christian Binondo and Adrian Pitogo.

Rudenis Palomo had two goals for USC while John Paul Jarnaiz added one.

Meanwhile, the University of Southern Philippines-Foundation (USP-F) beat University of the Visayas, 3-1, to book a third place match against UC.

In the secondary division, Sacred Heart School-Ateneo de Cebu (SHS-AdC) routed USJ-R, 3-0, to remain on top of the rankings. /Correspondent Dale G. Rosal
