PH Under 16 wins, faces Iran in q’finals
THE PHILIPPINE under-16 squad made quick work of India to, 78-67, to emerge as the top seed in Group F in the 3rd FIBA Asia Under-16 Championship held late Monday night at the Azadi Sports Complex in Tehran, Iran.
With a 4-1 (win-loss) card, the Nationals ended the second round as the top team in their group and set a quarterfinal round date with Iran, which finished fourth in group E. The quarters will be played today.
The Philippine team broke free from its opponents in the third canto, where they outscored India, 31-22, to open a 15-point bulge, 62-47, heading to the fourth period. There, the Nationals continued their dominance and finished off India behind the game-long brilliance of Jose Go IV, who had 26 points, four rebounds and four steals.
The other quarterfinal matches will feature Korea taking on Japan, Bahrain facing Chinese Taipei and China engaging Kazakhstan. /Correspondent Jonas Panerio
