Police on Monday arrested in Caloocan two men—including a policeman—believed to be involved in a string of motorcycle thefts in Taguig City.
Senior Police Officer 4 Jonathan Regala of the city’s anticar theft unit identified the two as Jerome Aniscal, 25, and Police Officer 1 Eduardo Lomboy, who is assigned at the District Public Safety Battalion of the Southern Police District.
Both men were arrested in separate entrapment operations conducted on Edsa on Sunday night. Lomboy’s arrest came at around 7 p.m. while Aniscal was collared four hours later. “One of our informants told us that the two were selling stolen motorcycles. PO1 Patrick Baldemor posed as a buyer and contacted the two [men],” Regala told the Inquirer.
Regala said that there were reports that another policeman was with Aniscal during the transaction. “But the policeman, whoever he was and if the reports are true, was wise enough to keep his distance,” Regala said.
The two Yamaha motorcycles that Lomboy and Aniscal were supposed to sell were seized.
Meanwhile, Senior Inspector Gaylord Tamayo, Ancar chief, told the Inquirer that they were still trying to determine the real owners of the stolen motorcycles. He said that criminal charges would be filed against the two men.—Kristine Felisse Mangunay
