SWU belles gun for finals seat today
THE SOUTHWESTERN University (SWU) Lady Cobras resume their bid for a seat in the finals today when they take on rivals University of San Jose-Recoletos (USJ-R) Lady Jaguars in the semifinals of the 2013 Cesafi volleyball tournament at the Aznar Coliseum.
Dethroned by the University of San Carlos (USC) in the finals last year, SWU has reloaded and appear to be well on their way to reclaiming the top rung in the ladder as it went undefeated in the elimination round this season.
The Cobras continued that trend in the semifinals when they beat the University of Southern Philippines-Foundation (USP-F) Lady Panthers in straight sets last Saturday, 25-14, 25-11, 27-25, for their first win of the single round-robin semifinals.
SWU will be seeking to take a step closer to taking one of the two finals berths at stake when it takes on an embattled USJ-R team that lost to Cebu Doctors’ University (CDU) last time out.
In the high school division, the defending champions USJ-R will be facing off against the Sacred Heart School-Ateneo de Cebu Magis Eagles. /Correspondent Jonas Panerio
