Binay hopes for peace between Philippines gov’t, MILF on end of Ramadan

MANILA, Philippines — Vice President Jejomar Binay emphasized the importance of forging peace between the Philippine government and the Moro Islamic Liberation Front (MILF) as he greeted Muslim Filipinos on the end of the holy month of Ramadan.

In a statement, Binay called the end of Ramadan a “time to foster unity and peace,” and expressed hope the government would finally forge a peace agreement with the secessionist MILF to “finally put an end to years of conflict and bloodshed.”

“I am with you in praying for the best interest of our country. I hope this brings us farther down the path toward lasting peace and harmony,” he addressed Filipino Muslims.

“This is the time to reach out to your loved ones with warmth and wishes of blessings… I share with you the joys of the festivities that you will surely be holding with your families, friends and communities,” he said.

“I am one with you in celebrating the conclusion of the month that you have devoted to fasting and the worship of God. I hope this period of challenge has brought you contentment and spiritual growth, especially with the knowledge that you have strived once again to fulfill an obligation to the Almighty… Eid Mubarak to our Muslim brothers and sisters all over the country,” he said.
