MANILA, Philippines — Some P5 million in equipment were damaged following a fire at the basement of the GMA Network building in Quezon City on Sunday night.
No one was injured in the blaze that broke out in a room at the lowest level of the building, located at the corner of EDSA and Timog Avenue, Barangay (village) Pinyahan.
Investigator Senior Fire Officer 2 Fortunato Alde said the fire was confined to the power room of the building located at Basement 2.
The hour-long blaze damaged some P5 million in power supply equipment but spared the stand-by generator in the power room.
Fire investigators believe that the fire was “electrical-related” but they were still investigating to determine the exact cause of the incident.
The fire reportedly started at around 9 p.m. Sunday, with fire fighters arriving on the scene around 30 minutes later.
Alde said the blaze reached the second alarm, with firefighters finally putting it out at 9:55 p.m.
Fortunately, there were no parked vehicles located at the basement level since the parking area is found at Basement 1.
