MANILA, Philippines—Manila Mayor Joseph Estrada has banned the sale and distribution of alcoholic drinks by vendors and dining places near and around the University of Santo Tomas during the Bar examination in October.

In an executive order issued Monday, Estrada said that the liquor ban will be imposed for the four Sundays of October–6, 13, 20 and 27—during the scheduled Bar examination.

“No store, restaurant, eatery, café or any eating places or ambulant vendors shall be allowed to sell, peddle or offer for drink to any person intoxicating beverages such as beer, liquors, wines and the like,” Estrada said.

The ban will be between 4 am and 8pm within 200 meters from the perimeter walls of UST along Espana Boulevard and Lacson Avenue (formerly Governor Forbes), Dapitan Street and P. Noval Street.

Over 5,000 law students are expected to troop to the UST for the examination. This year’s Bar Committee Chairman is Associate Justice Arturo Brion.
