DBTC, USC booters chalk up wins

THE DON Bosco Technology Center (DBTC) and the University of San Carlos (USC) brightened their chances of making it to the finals in their respective divisions in  the Cesafi football tournament after chalking up separate wins yesterday at the Cebu City Sports Center football field.

DBTC kept in step with defending secondary champions Sacred Heart School-Ateneo de Cebu (SHS-AdC) after logging an impressive 14-0 victory over the University of San Jose-Recoletos (USJ-R) in the first game.

USC, on the other hand, took the top spot in the tertiary division after defeating DBTC, 6-0, in the last game yesterday.

Tournament format states that the top two teams after the double round-robin elimination will advance to the finals.

With the elimination round  ending this Wednesday, the victories were important for both DBTC and USC.

SHS-AdC, which beat the University of Southern Philippines-Foundation (USP-F), 2-0, yesterday, currently trails DBTC despite being tied with 16 points. SHS-AdC has five wins and one draw while DBTC also has five wins, one draw and one loss. DBTC leads because of a higher goal difference.

USP-F is currently at third with four wins and three losses.

USC, meanwhile, took the lead in the tertiary division after the win over DBTC.

The Kicking Warriors were behind defending champion USJ-R before they beat DBTC. They climbed up to the top spot with 19 points after earning three points for winning over DBTC.

The Kicking Jaguars dropped to the second spot with 18 points while University of Cebu (UC) is at third with 14 points.

UC failed to pull itself closer after settling for a 0-0 draw against the University of the Visayas (UV). USJ-R also drew with USP-F, 0-0. /CORRESPONDENT DALE G. ROSAL
