MANILA, Philippines—Former Armed Forces of the Philippines (AFP) chief of staff Jessie Dellosa was appointed by President Benigno Aquino III as the deputy commissioner of the Bureau of Customs Intelligence Group.
Dellosa was officially designated by Aquino on Friday to replace former deputy commissioner for intelligence Danilo Lim.
After Aquino scorned the graft-ridden agency in his State of the Nation Address in July, Lim immediately resigned from his post. It was only three weeks after Aquino accepted his resignation.
Dellosa’s appointment was signed by the President on Friday, Deputy Presidential Spokesperson Abigail Valte said in a radio interview over government-run radio station dzRB Radyo ng Bayan on Saturday.
As a commanding officer of the Special Reaction Unit of the Presidential Security Group, he was known for protecting the late president Corazon Aquino during several coup attempts from 1986 until 1992.
Dellosa, who assumed the AFP chief of staff position in 2011, retired on January 17 this year.
The Sorsogon-born deputy commissioner belonged to the Philippine Military Academy (PMA) Class of 1979.
Other appointments made by Aquino include Primo B. Aguas as Deputy Commissioner for Management Information Systems and Technology Group, replacing Maria Caridad T. Manarang; Agaton Teodoro O. Uvero as Deputy Commissioner for Assessment and Operations Coordinating Group, replacing Prudencio M. Reyes; and Director Myrna Chua of the Department of Budget and Management (DBM), as deputy commissioner for the Internal Administration Group.
