2 killed, 5 injured in North Cotabato road accident

KIDAPAWAN CITY, North Cotabato – Two people were killed instantly while five others were injured when a speeding passenger van slammed into a trailer truck parked on the left side of a highway in Pigkawayan, North Cotabato Saturday.

Police Officer 1 Ariel Makiling, Pigcawayan traffic police investigator, said the van from Cotabato City was heading toward  Midsayap, North Cotabato at about 11 a.m., when it suddenly swerved to the opposite lane and crashed into  the cargo truck parked by the roadside in Barangay (village) Manuangan.

Makiling said the impact was so strong that the van looked like a piece of crumpled paper.

Policemen who rushed to the accident site had difficulty retrieving the bodies of the driver and one of the passengers, he said.

Makiling said three of the injured passengers were in critical condition at hospitals but the two others were out of danger.
