‘Polite’ men on motorcycle rob TV reporter in front of home

PRETENDING to ask for directions, two “well-mannered” men on a motorbike proceeded to rob GMA 7 television reporter Bernadette Reyes in front of her house on Monday evening along Tomas Morato Avenue, Barangay Kamuning in Quezon City.

Senior Supt. Crisostomo Mendoza of Quezon City Police District Station 10 told the Inquirer that Reyes had just reached home when two men on board a motorcycle stopped in front of her and asked for directions.

“She said she answered the query but as one of the men alighted from the vehicle, he immediately pulled out a knife as his companion parked the motorcycle not far from where she was standing,” Mendoza said.

Reyes told police the robbers threatened to kill her if she did not turn over her designer bag, two cell phones, P20,000 in cash, ATM cards, a bank passbook and other documents, including her ID.

Reyes said she screamed for help as the robbers were driving away, but no one came to help her.

The police official said Reyes was not able to take down the motorcycle’s plate number but had flagged down a passing patrol car for help.

The reporter described her attackers as between 5’7” and 5’8” in height, more than 30 years old, dark-skinned and with bulky frames. She added that she would recognize the pair if she saw them again.

Mendoza, meanwhile, said a suspect had been identified.

“As soon as we are able to confirm his identity, we are ready to arrest him,” he said.
