Only 23 slots are left for the Cebu Parklane International Hotel’s “Hunat Sugbo Triathlon” slated for Oct. 6 at the Heritage Park in Oslob town, southern Cebu.
A total of 327 triathletes composed mostly of beginners have already signed up for the race organized by Parklane which also organizes the highly successful “Hunat Sugbo: Dagan Para ni Maning.”
“We had a meeting with the municipal officials of Oslob last Friday for the preparations and I should say that we are very prepared for the event,” said race director Benjoe Jimenez.
According to Jimenez, the bulk of triathletes competing in Oslob’s first-ever triathlon will be seeing action in the Standard division with 237 participants while 90 have registered in the Sprint division.
Ten slots are still up for grabs in the Sprint category while 13 are in the Standard division.
Jimenez also disclosed that 2013 Cobra Ironman 70.3 Filipino Elite third placer and 37th Milo Marathon Cebu Leg 21k champion John Philip Dueñas will compete as well as Elmo Clarabal.
The triathlon event will feature a 1.5-kilometer swim, 40k bike and 10k run that will pass through Oslob’s famous tourist sites including Barangay Tan-Awan where the famous whale sharks or butandings may be sighted.
The male division has seven age categories and three for the female category. The Sprint category features 750m swim, 20k bike and 5k run.
The winning triathlete in both male and female divisions will take home P5,000 while the second placers will get P3,000. Third placers will pocket P2,000. The top three age group finishers will receive specially designed medals while the top three Sprint category winners will receive medals.
Registration fees for the Standard and Sprint categories are pegged at P1,800. Relay teams will have to pay P1,200 to register. One can register online at sugbutriathlon.com
