Cebu City tankers snare 12 golds in BP qualifying
TEAM Cebu City composed mostly of swimmers from the Cebu Blue Marlins Club, snatched 12 gold medals in the ongoing Visayas Qualifying Leg of Batang Pinoy 2013 games in Tacloban City, Leyte.
The team, under the tutelage of veteran swimming coach Lando Alvarez finished their first day campaign with 12 gold medals, nine silvers and three bronzes.
Cebu City’s 13-15 years old division girls squad won most of the gold medals yesterday after Karen Mae Indaya snatched three gold medals by topping the 200m, 800m and 400m freestyle events. The Cebuanos also topped the 4x50m medley relay.
Madelin Capacio of University of San Jose-Recoletos (USJ-R) topped the 200m backstroke and 200m butterfly while teammate Justine Reign Garrido of Saint Theresa’s College (STC) dominated the 50m and 200m breaststroke races.
Michael Ichiro Kong of the University of Cebu (UC) finished the first day of competition with two golds by ruling the 200m butterfly and 50m butterfly. He also fetched a silver in the 4x50m medley relay.
In the 12-year-and-under division, Val Andre Chiu of Sacred Heart School-Ateneo De Cebu dominated the 100-meter freestyle and got silver medals in the 50m and 200m breaststroke.
