Ateneo tossers top Maynilad

THE lady spikers of Ateneo got back in contention in the quarterfinal round as they downed Maynilad, 25-17, 23-25, 25-22, 25-15, in the Shakey’s V-League Open Conference before a big Sunday crowd at The Arena in San Juan.

Alyssa Valdez and Fille Cainglet combined for a whopping 51-hit output with the former unleashing 22 kills and the latter coming up with a solid 20-attack stint to help the Eagles snap an alarming five game-skid and into the thick of things.

With a 1-1 (win-loss) card, the first conference champions moved up to fourth while dropping the Water Dragons to 0-2 with the race to the semifinal round of the league sponsored by Shakey’s Pizza expected to heat up this week.  /Correspondent Jonas Panerio
