The Sacred Heart School-Ateneo de Cebu (SHS-AdC) Magis Eagles kept their unbeaten record intact as they demolished the University of Southern Philippines Foundation (USPF) Baby Panthers, 96-43, in the juniors division of the Cebu Schools Athletic Foundation Inc. (CESAFI) basketball tournament yesterday at the Cebu Coliseum.
The win allowed last year’s runners-up to tie the idle University of the Visayas (UV) Baby Lancers at the top of the standings with similar 4-0 (win-loss) records.
The way they routed their opponents yesterday though was a sight to behold as they zoomed ahead, 20-9, after the first period and extended that advantage to 32-16 at the turn
The third period was an awesome one for Ateneo as they scored 29 while allowing the Baby Panthers to scrounge up just 14 for an insurmountable 61-30 lead heading to the final canto.
Big man Julius Cadavis topped the winners with 17 while Aaron Sing tallied 14 spiked by four three-pointers.
USPF, on the other hand, suffered greatly from the measly eight-point output of Rommel Diapera.
The other juniors division game saw the University of San Carlos (USC) Baby Warriors kept winless as they were edged by the Don Bosco Greywolves, 66-63.
USC is now holding a 0-5 card while Don Bosco recovered from their two early setbacks to even their record out at 2-2.
In the seniors division, the USPF Panthers got back on the winning track as they destroyed the Cebu Institute of Technology-University (CIT-U) Wildcats, 82-71.
James Ferraren scored 23 for USPF while Joseph Sedurifa backed him up with 18 markers.
Allen Dimco had 29 for CIT-U, which fell to a league-worst 0-4.
