MENDIOLA, the street in Manila near Malacañang known to be home to colleges and universities that form the University Belt, was named after the late educator Enrique Mendiola. Born on May 3, 1859, in San Miguel, Manila, he taught at Liceo de Manila and Burgos Institute and was a former member of the Manila Municipal Board. Mendiola was also named a member of the first UP Board of Regents in 1908. Schatzi Quodala, Inquirer Research
