RIDERS from Team Petronas-Mackyworx-Yamaha stamped their class in the MotoROC (Race of Champions) National Finals held over the weekend at the Aseana City in Manila.
Vingie Coloma spearheaded the team’s sterling campaign after he topped the 4 Automatic Scooter 160 expert. Coloma’s teammate Cliford Bacus took first runner-up honors.
“I didn’t expect to win since the race was participated by tough riders from all over the country,” said the Davao City-native rider, who is supported by Racing Boy, Yushimura, DID and FDR Tires.
Axl Teves of Dumaguete finished second in the 4 Automatic Scooter 160 novice race, while Enzo Teves ranked second in the 115cc Super Stock novice category.
Apart from the MotoROC, the Petronas-Yamaha stalwarts also had successful campaigns in other competitions such as of the Visayas-Mindanao Regional Underbone Grand Prix (RUGP) Series, whose recent leg was held last month at the Gaisano Countrymall parkling lot.
“I am very thankful to God for giving us this series of victories. Our profound gratitude also goes to our sponsors for their all-out support that inspires us along the way,” said Petronas-Yamaha team consultant Neil Labrador in a press conference yesterday at Porto’s Diner & Grille in Escario Central. “I’m proud to say that we’re the youngest team to excel in a very short span of time. We’ve been formed in only less than two years, yet we already made an impact in every major race we joined in.”
The team looks to continue its sizzling run when it competes in fifth leg of the Vis-Min RUGP Series in Bayawan City scheduled this weekend.
Labrador said the team will have eight riders. The team is supported by Petronas Phils. and Yamaha in association with Motoworld, LS2 Helmets, Suzuki Phils., NCX Mufflers, MTRT, MS Motosuit, Izumi, and Porto’s Diner & Grille.
“We will be bringing 11 motorcycles to Bayawan so we have bigger chances of winning,” said Labrador. /EDITORIAL ASSISTANT CALVIN D. CORDOVA
