Another bus crash: 3 dead, 10 hurt in San Carlos
BACOLOD CITY, Philippines—Three persons were killed while 10 others were injured when a bus fell into a ravine in San Carlos City, about 134 km north of Negros Occidental.
Chief Insp. Victorino Romanillos, acting chief of San Carlos police, identified the fatalities as Teodoro Aburido, driver of the Ceres Liner bus, and Hilarion Canencia and Emerlina Dumanggas.
The bus, which came from Bacolod City, was on its way to San Carlos when it plunged into a 100-foot deep ravine in Sitio Dukog-dukog, Barangay Rizal in San Carlos City past 8 p.m. Wednesday.
Romanillos said the bus had 13 persons onboard, including the driver, the bus inspector and the conductor.
Passengers told radio station dyEZ that they noticed the headlights of the bus had gone out at least four times while they were traveling through foggy road.
Yet, they said Aburido continued driving until the bus fell into the ravine.
Article continues after this advertisementSenior Supt. Allan Guisihan, Negros Occidental police director, said in a text message that the bus brakes might have failed.
Some of the injured were initially brought to San Carlos City hospitals but transferred to hospitals in this city.
