Better weather over Luzon seen

MANILA, Philippines—The parts of Luzon that were swamped by storm-enhanced monsoon rains over the weekend will see gradually improving weather by Thursday, the state weather bureau said on Tuesday.

The Philippine Atmospheric, Geophysical and Astronomical Services Administration (Pagasa) predicted better days ahead in the western parts of Luzon that were heavily affected by the rains caused by the southwest monsoon, or the “hanging habagat.”

But isolated rain and thunderstorms will likely still be felt in Metro Manila and other parts of Luzon on Wednesday, although these will not be as strong as those of Sunday and Monday, said Pagasa forecaster Jori Loiz.

A low-pressure area spotted in the West Philippine Sea is not expected to intensify in the next 24 hours, although it may affect Western Visayas, Central Luzon and Metro Manila, if it approaches the Philippine area of responsibility, he said.

Based on weather indicators, the southwest monsoon appears to be weakening, Loiz said.
