Lapu celebrates Family Week, gives free medical and dental services

MORE than 500 people, including the beneficiaries of Pantawid Pamilyang Pilipino Program, availed of free medical and dental services during the opening of National Family Week celebration organized by the Lapu-Lapu City government and the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints at the city’s auditorium yesterday.

During the opening ceremony, a wheelchair, reading eyeglasses, medicines and vitamins were also distributed for free to the beneficiaries. The Mormon church in Carajay road, barangay Gun-ob, Lapu-Lapu City also offered family tree search.

The theme for the celebration is “Unity Across Generation: A strong Family, A Strong Society.”

Romeo Duero, president of Mandaue Philippines Stake (covering the areas of Lapu-Lapu and Mandaue), said they have always been actively involved since 1992 when the National Family Week was proclaimed and signed into law by former president Fidel V. Ramos.

Dr. Eduardo Ompad, Lapu-Lapu City Schools Division Superintendent, said students in the city’s public high schools are scheduled to visit the Family Genealogy exhibit at the Mormon Church to trace their family history. The exhibit is open to the public.

The week-long celebration will also highlight a Family Day at the Lapu-Lapu City Sports Complex tomorrow, Family Got Talent show on Sept. 26 and ecumenical gathering and awarding on the last day, Sept. 27.
