MANILA, Philippines—Rains are expected to continue Tuesday in Metro Manila even as the weather has improved from Monday’s heavy downpour, the state weather bureau said.

Metro Manila, Central Luzon, Calabarzon (Cavite, Laguna, Batangas, Rizal and Quezon provinces) and Mimaropa (Mindoro, Marinduque, Romlon, Palawan) will experience cloudy skies with moderate to occasionally heavy rains and thunderstorms, which may trigger flashfloods and landslides, the Philippine Atmospheric Geophysical and Astronomical Services Administration (Pagasa) said.

Based on Pagasa’s extended weather outlook, cloudy skies with rainshowers and thunderstorms are forecast for the whole week in Metro Manila.

Ben Oris, Pagasa weather observer, said that rains are most especially expected in the afternoon or evening.

Monday’s rains were caused by the southwest monsoon (hanging habagat), which was enhanced by the storm over the Pacific Ocean named “Pabuk.” It was moving toward Japan but still had a slight effect on the country, Oris said.

Meanwhile, western Visayas and the rest of Luzon will have cloudy skies with light to moderate rainshowers and thunderstorms. The rest of the country will be partly cloudy to cloudy with isolated rainshowers or thunderstorms.
