Doctor loses P1M in cash, valuables inside Quezon City condo unit

MANILA, Philippines — A doctor lost more than P1 million in cash and valuables at her condominium unit in Quezon City and the police are now looking into the possibility of an inside job into the thefts.

The robbery happened at the one-bedroom unit of Dr. Elice Ventura, 30, at the Orchard Tower 3 in Barangay (village) Bagumbayan over the weekend.

Missing from the room were P1 million in jewelry, P200,000 in cash, the doctor’s passport, bank passbook, a transcript of records and clearances.

Police Officer 2 George Caculba, case investigator, said that there were no signs of forced entry into the room.

The police officer said on Monday they have been investigating the possibility of an inside job, since five others, apart from Ventura, have been living inside the one-bedroom unit.

At first, only Ventura, her partner Leonardo Buenaventura, and Ventura’s younger brother Corby occupied the unit.

In July, two of her cousins also moved into the room with a friend. All three hail from Malabon and were allowed by the doctor to stay with her while they were looking for jobs.

On Saturday morning, Ventura noticed that P200,000 cash was gone from her cabinet and spoke to her housemates about it on Sunday.

Caculba learned that on Sunday afternoon, the group took a nap inside the unit. The doctor woke up at around 2 pm to find out that her jewelry and other belongings were missing as well.
