Capitol Parish granted ‘year of grace’

The Our Lady of Sacred Heart parish has also been declared a ‘place of pilgrimage’

The Our Lady of the Sacred Heart (OLSH) Parish in Capitol Site, Cebu City has been granted a “Special Year of Grace” by Cebu Archbishop Jose S. Palma on the occasion of its 50th anniversary.

The year of grace runs from Aug. 22, 2013-Aug. 22, 2014.

The Capitol Parish has also been declared a “Place of Pilgrimage” within the said period.

The declaration further grants “every Catholic who takes part in the liturgical celebration and other jubilee activities at the Parish a plenary indulgence after reciting prayer intentions and The Lord’s Prayer, the Credo, and the Salve.”

The OLSH Parish celebrated its golden anniversary as a parish last Aug. 22.

The anniversary Mass was celebrated by Archbishop Emeritus of Cebu Ricardo Cardinal Vidal.

Prior to the anniversary, triduum Masses were held from Aug. 19-21, officiated by Bishop Julito Cortes, Bishop Emilio Bataclan and Msgr. Roberto Alesna, respectively.

A fund-raising concert for the continuing church expansion, “Voices from the Choir Loft” was also organized last Aug. 17. The concert featured various performers, including Msgr. Agustin Ancajas, the OLSH Parish Grand Choir and Celestial Voices Choral.

The Our Lady of the Sacred Heart is invoked as the “Hope of the Hopeless.” The parish was established in Aug. 22, 1963 and was initially run by priests of the Missionaries of the Sacred Heart, until administration was turned over to the Archdiocese of Cebu in 1979.
