THE UNIVERSITY of Cebu (UC) Webmasters remained the best team in table tennis competition in the Cebu Schools Athletic Foundation Inc.
This after UC showcased its dominance by ruling all of the categories in the collegiate and secondary divisions of the sport at the UC main campus’ table tennis center.
UC’s Dannel Jay Tormis and Val Stephen Jaca led UC’s charge as they beat University of San Carlos’s (USC) Jason Millan and Jude Labastida, respectively, in their men’s singles matches.
Tormis beat Millan 11-3, 11-4, 11-5, while Jaca routed Labastida,11-9, 11-5, 11-5. Lemuel Agbon and Zeus Comaingking paired up to defeat Ian Combate and Nino Zosa, 14-12, 11-6, 11-5, to complete the sweep of the Webmasters in the men’s division.
UC’s Elona Dane Tormis routed Angelie San Juan of USC in four sets, 11-2, 11-6, 6-11, 11-9, and Jerny Kaye Pepito defeated USC’s Issa Darlo, 11-7,11-8,11-8, in the singles games. Candy Babalcon and Mae Tomongha defeated Rachel Parba and Grace Alkuino of USC to give UC the sweep in the women’s division.
USC ended up second in the men’s and women’s competition while the University of the Visayas (UV) placed third.
In the secondary division, UC’s Kent Abellanosa nipped Christian Avenido of Don Bosco Technology Center (DBTC), 11-2, 11-8, 11-6, while teammate Francis Bendebel won over Brando Sumalinog of DBTC also, 11-3, 11-5, 11-6, to sweep the singles games. Joshua Amencio and Gerardo Jose Heredia completed the domination for UC after beating DBTC’s Matt Gabriel Gabuya and Angleo Dadula, 11-6, 11-8, 8-11, 11-7.
In the girls division, UC’s Jeramae Saromines won over USC’s Tamara Maningo,11-3,11-5,11-7, Athena Comaingking downed Jasha Perocillo, 12-10, 11-8, 11-9 and Leslie Agbon and Diana Oliverio disposed USC’s Camille dela Torre and Marjorie Saragena,11-8,11-7,11-5, to rule the division.
USC once again placed second in the secondary division while DBTC ro unded off the top three. /Correspondent Dale Rosal
