‘Odette’ affects nearly 50,000 – NDRRMC
MANILA, Philippines – Nearly 50,000 persons were affected from the rains spawned by typhoon “Odette” (international name Usagi), the National Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Council said Monday.
The affected persons, 27,041 of them were housed in shelters, were from the regions of Ilocos, Cagayan, Central Luzon, Mimaropa, Bicol, Western Visayas and Cordillera.
Ilocos Norte was placed under state of calamity.
Two were killed from a capsized boat in heavy seas off Aurora province last Friday. Three were still missing.
The NDRRMC said 217 houses were damaged as of Monday morning. “Odette” also knocked out power lines, causing it to shut down during its onslaught.
The government had prepared standby funds worth P2 million for “Odette” victims.
