MANILA, Philippines – The provinces of Laguna and Cavite on Sunday announced the suspension of classes due to torrential rains caused by the southwest monsoon.
Through his Twitter account, Cavite Governor Jonvic Remulla said classes in the elementary and high school levels in the province for Monday are canceled.
Torrential rains continued to batter parts of Luzon and Metro Manila and the state weather bureau issued a fourth yellow rainfall warning early Sunday evening.
It added that the southwest monsoon will continue to dump rains in Luzon even as typhoon “Odette” (international name Usagi) left the country early Sunday.
In a radio interview, Remulla said five villages in Cavite were already submerged in floodwaters because of heavy rains that started Friday.
Meanwhile, Laguna Gov. Emilio Ramon Ejercito told a radio station that there will be no classes in all levels in the province on Monday, citing floods in many towns, especially in villages near the swollen Laguna de Bay.
