A 30-year-old habal-habal driver was stabbed dead by his nephew following an argument in barangay Tungkop, Minglanilla town, southern Cebu Thursday dawn.
Michael Torres, a resident of barangay Tungkop, died from two stab wounds in the back.
The suspect, Kevin Alfante, surrendered to the police several hours after the incident.
Police said that prior to the incident, the two men had a drinking session in a bar in Minglanilla. They were already heading home on a motorcycle when they argued.
Torres allegedly attacked Alfante and left him behind.
Alfante said he rushed home for fear that his uncle would harm his live-in partner as the couple and the uncle reside in one house in sitio KSKC.
Alfante alleged that when he arrived home, he saw his uncle carrying a knife.
Alfante said he and his live-in partner ran to his mother’s house but his uncle followed them there and then another confrontation ensued.
Police said Alfante hit Torres with a hard object, grabbed the knife from his uncle and stabbed him.
Torres was brought to the Minglanilla District Hospital but the attending physician declared him dead.
In a separate incident, a 42-year-old man shot and wounded his son in barangay Mantayupan, Barili town also last Thursday dawn.
Marcos Cobar shot his 21-year-old son Jonathan in the nose with a .22 caliber revolver.
Police said Jonathan was drinking with friends when his mother asked him to go home since he was already drunk.
Instead of heeding his mother’s request, Jonathan got irked and confronted her.
Marcos witnessed the dispute and tried to pacify his son.
Police said Jonathan turned his anger on his father and tried to hack him with a sickle prompting Marcos to shoot his son.
Jonathan was taken to a Cebu City hospital while Marcos surrendered to barangay officials, who turned him over to the police./CORRESPONDENT CHRISTINE EMILY L. PANTALEON
