ATHENS – A 4.3-magnitude earthquake struck central Greece some 59 kilometers (36 miles) west of Athens early Friday, the Athens Observatory said, with no immediate reports of damages.

The epicenter of the quake, described as “mild,” was in the Korinthian Gulf in the Mediterranean sea, about 24 kilometers (14 miles) southwest of the city of Thebes, the Observatory said.

The quake was recorded at 5:05 local time (0205 GMT) and according to the state-run Athens News Agency, tremors were also felt in the Greek capital.

Greece is the European country that is most frequently hit with earthquakes.
