DOST holds invention contests

THE 2013 Regional Invention Contests and Exhibits (RICE) opened yesterday at the Ayala Center Cebu Activity Center.

The activity is spearheaded by the Department of Science and Technology (DOST), through the Technology Application and Promotion Institute (TAPI).

The 2013 RICE aims to give cash rewards to Outstanding Inventions (Tuklas Award), Outstanding Utility Models, Outstanding Industrial Designs, Outstanding Creative Researches (Likha Award) and Outstanding Student Creative Research (Sibol Award) for high school and college students.

With the theme, “Inventions and Innovations for Smarter Philippines,” this science and technology event underscores the invaluable contributions of Filipino inventions and innovations in helping the country move forward by coping with diverse challenges brought about by global economic crisis.

RICE 2013 provides support to Filipino inventors by bringing their inventions to the attention of the public, potential investors and possible commercial partners.

Non-contest inventions will also be exhibited.

The event will run until tomorrow, Sept. 21. The venue is open from 10 a.m. to 9 p.m. Admission is free.
