MANILA, Philippines – Cebu Daily News’ Ador Vincent Mayol was named “Reporter of the Year for Print” at the 2nd Globe Cebu Media Excellence Awards on Tuesday for his special series on persons with disabilities (PWDs).
Mayol bested other journalists after coming up with a three-part series on the challenges faced by PWDs earning a living.
The CDN reporter received his award at the Cebu Marriott Hotel Tuesday, coinciding with the celebration of Cebu Press Freedom Week.
In the series published from June 10 to 12, Mayol interviewed a blind masseur and a machine operator born with no hands and looked into the various laws and Cebu ordinances that protect the welfare of PWDs.
“I realized that if only PWDs would be given a chance, they too could transcend their condition,” he said.
