The Commission on Youth Movement (CYM)of Cebu will spearhead a youth-oriented running event dubbed “Dagan Kabataan-Run with the Youth, for the Youth” on Sept. 18 at the Ayala Center Cebu’s The Terraces.
The running event is organized to create awareness on the national year of the youth. The Catholic Bishops Conference of the Philippines (CBCP) made 2010 and 2011 the Year of the Youth.
The run is expected to be participated by Cebu Archbishop Jose Palma. Palma, who was present during yesterday’s launching at the Archbishop’s Palace, will fire the starting gun of the race. He is also joining the short-distance catgeory of the running event.Categories offered are 3-kilometers, 5k and 15k.
Joining Palma in the launching were CYM chairman Fr. Ronald Guiao, Zaldy Velano of Summit Natural Drinking Water, race director Bro. Carlo Bacalla, technical director Joel Juarez and Salesian Youth Movement (SYM) chairman Fr. Allen Alevado.
Organizers have already invited Catholic schools in Cebu to join the race. During the launching, Palma signed the pastoral letters to be distributed to various schools and parishes in Cebu City as an invitation to join the running event.
Registration areas are at the Ayala Active Zone, FILA SM City Cebu branch, Cebu City Sports Center (CCSC) and various designated Catholic schools in Cebu City. Registration fee is pegged at P150 for the 3k category and P250 for 5k and 15k.
The proceeds of the race will be used for charity missions for the less fortunate children of Cebu.
