BFP wants ownership of firetrucks

/ 08:53 AM September 19, 2013

THE regional office of the Bureau of Fire Protection (BFP) is asking the Cebu Provincial Government to hand over to them the ownership of province-owned firetrucks assigned in towns and cities.

According to Provincial Board Member Grecilda Sanchez, BFP 7 Regional Director Maria Luisa Hadjula made the request so they can take care of the maintenance and repair of 31 mini-firetrucks purchased by the administration of former governor Gwendolyn Garcia.

Sanchez said some of the towns that currently use the firetrucks do not have funds to maintain the vehicles.

“They (BFP) are asking the Province to donate the units because they cannot allocate funds for the repair if they do not own it,” she told Cebu Daily News yesterday.

After the repairs are done, BFP-7 will distribute the firetrucks back to the towns and provide the necessary fire personnel, she said.

Sanchez filed a resolution with the Cebu Provincial Board (PB) last Monday for the donation of the units but the board deferred action on the issue.

The PB instead agreed to invite the officials from BFP in next week’s session so they can explain their request.  /CORRESPONDENT PETER L. ROMANILLOS
