THE Goldberry Suites hope to reclaim the title they last held in 2010 today but will have to go through a hungry and youthful Insular Square side in Game 1 of the best-of-three finals series of the 2013 Sacred Heart Ateneo Alumni Basketball Athletic Association (SHAABAA) Mivesa Cup at the Sacred Heart School-Ateneo de Cebu basketball courts along Mango Avenue.
Goldberry, a team composed of grizzled veterans, booked their slot in the finals by ousting the defending champions Cebu Landmasters, 82-66, in the deciding Game Three of the semifinals last Sunday at the SHS-AdC gym in Canduman, Mandaue City. Goldberry’s victory compensated their loss to the very same Landmasters squad in the finals last season.
On the other hand, Insular Square had to go through a tough and gritty RDAK Transporters team before coming through in overtime, 83-78, in Game Three of their series.
The finals series is expected to be a rough-and-tumble one with Insular Square going to war behind their versatile guard, Ed Macasling and forwards Antonio Datan, Leigh Dixon, Jasper Diaz and Job Shan. Goldberry will be bannered by many-time MVP Dave Lim, last season’s MVP Jeremy Huang and his talented brother, Justin and skillful guards Dave Ting and Dennis Que.
