About two-fifths or 41 percent (42,311) of the total 104,462 job openings in the National Capital Region in the first quarter of the year were from the wholesale and retail trade sector, according to data from the Bureau of Labor and Employment Statistics. This was followed by the professional, scientific and technical activities sector (18 percent or 18,744) and the administrative support and service activities industry (14 percent or 14,900).
