Shoes for Cebu school pupils

A total of 23,487 school children from seven public schools received a pair of TOMS Shoes from Feed The Children-Philippines (FTCP).

The beneficiary schools are Guadalupe Elementary School, City Central Elementary School, Pasil Elementary School, Mambaling Elementary School, Regino Mercado Elementary School and Alaska Elementary School, all in Cebu City, and Barangay Oboob Elementary School in Bantayan Island.

The turnover and distribution of the shoes at the beneficiary schools was held last Aug. 28 to Aug. 30 and was highlighted by a short program attended by the school principal, teachers, FTCP management, staff and volunteers, PTA officers and local government officials.

Feed The Children-Philippines, a Cebu-based non-profit organization that operates nationwide, is an affiliate of FTC-United States.

The shoes donation was done through the partnership of FTC-US and TOMS Shoes, a US-based company.

Aside from the provision of shoes, FTC-Philippines also partners with the seven schools in the conduct of a six-month supplemental feeding program for children with below normal weights as well as for all children in grades 3 and 6.

A total of 9,953 children benefit from the thrice a week feeding program.

Feed The Children believes that with proper nutrition and having school shoes, children will become less sickly, will be encouraged to attend classes regularly, and will participate actively in school resulting to their improved academic performance.
