THE spikers of the University of San Carlos (USC) amped up their bid for the title in the boys division after they beat the University of Southern Philippines Foundation (USPF) Baby Panthers in sweeping fashion in the 2013 Cesafi volleyball tournament last Monday night at the USPF gym in Lahug.
Undaunted by the homecourt-toting Baby Panthers, USC unleashed its power game to eke out a 25-20, 25-19 win for its fourth victory against a lone defeat.
The win also solidified USC’s hold of second place in the standings behind the undefeated reigning champions University of San Jose-Recoletos (USJ-R) Baby Jaguars, who hold a clean 4-0 (win-loss) mark.
In the girl’s division, Southwestern University (SWU) kept its hopes for a semifinal berth alive after it defeated the University of Cebu (UC) in convincing fashion, 25-12, 25-17.
SWU now holds solo third place with a 2-1 card, just slightly behind the unbeaten USC (4-0) and defending champions USJ-R (3-1). UC fell to their its fifth straight defeat. /Correspondent Jonas Panerio
