Zafico tops Bantayan ultramarathon

PAUL JAMES Zafico won last Sunday’s Bantayan Island Beach Ultramarathon 50K of the Cebu Ultra Runner Club (CUC).

The ultramarathon started and finished at the Sta. Fe Beach Club in Bantayan Island, northern Cebu.

Zafico, a champion in the second leg of CUC’s Visayas Tour, finished the grueling 50k race with a time of four hours, 23 minutes and two seconds.

Neil Nacario placed second with a time of four hours, 54 minutes and 13 seconds while Welmar Saavedra settled for third with a time of 4:55.46.

CUC Ultramarathon second leg champion Jade Abellana topped the distaff side with a time of five hours, 27 minutes and 32 seconds.

Melchomelda Kitane trailed her at second place with a time of 5:39.41 while Mary Luz Shimizu rounded off the top three with a time of 5:56.59. /CORRESPONDENT DALE G. ROSAL
