Fire razes Malabon candy factory during heavy rains

Heavy rains did not prevent a fire from gutting a candy factory in Malabon City on Saturday morning.

Fire Officer 3 Jerry Torres, case investigator, said the fire, allegedly caused by lightning, razed the Philippine American Sweets on Rivera St., Barangay Tañong, at around 4 a.m.

Because of the heavy rains at the time, firemen had to walk through leg-deep floodwaters as they sprayed water from their hoses.

A fire-out was declared only after more than five hours.

Fire officials said the building also housed stocks of brooms and sticks made of wood and bamboo.

There were no reports of casualties. Damage to property was estimated at P2 million. Kristine Felisse Mangunay
