‘Balut’ vendor jumps to death as wife watches

/ 02:54 AM September 17, 2013

A man was killed after jumping from the rooftop of a neighborhood store before dawn Monday in Quezon City.

The family and neighbors of “balut” vendor Ricky Abedanio, 36, said they had no idea why he suddenly took an apparently suicidal leap from atop the store on Silangan Street in Barangay (village) Apolonio Samson, where he also lived.

SPO1 Eric Lazo of the Quezon City Police District said the victim hit the ground head first and died of severe injuries before neighbors could bring him to Quezon City General Hospital. Abedanio’s wife, Evangeline, told police that her husband went up the June Store’s rooftop terrace Sunday night, where she saw him having a chat with some neighbors.

She and a friend were then talking in front of the store when they saw Abedanio suddenly jump.—Julie M. Aurelio
