ZAMBOANGA CITY, Philippines — At least 26 hostages, most of them students, were freed by their Moro National Liberation Front (MNLF) captors in the village of Santa Catalina here on Monday night.
The freed hostages were brought to the Criminal Investigation and Detection Group office here.
The MNLF faction led by Nur Misuari attacked this city on Sept. 9, taking hostages along the way. The Misuari faction is protesting what they thought to be government’s failure to implement the 1996 peace agreement between the Philippine government and the MNLF.
