MANILA, Philippines — A southwest monsoon affecting Southern Luzon and Visayas is bringing rains there and its nearby areas, the state weather bureau said Sunday.

Metro Manila, Central Luzon, Calabarzon and Mimaropa will experience cloudy skies with moderate to heavy rains and thunderstorms which may trigger flashfloods and landslides, the Philippine Atmospheric Geophysical and Astronomical Services Administration said in its 5p.m. bulletin.

A yellow rainfall warning was issued by the weather bureau at 2:55p.m. in Metro Manila due to the southwest monsoon.

“Moderate to occasional heavy rainfall is affecting Metro Manila, Rizal, Laguna, Cavite, Bulacan, Pampanga, Bataan, Zambales, Occidental Mindoro, Tarlac and portions of Batangas, Quezon, and Nueva Ecija most likely to continue for the next three hours,” Pagasa said, adding that flooding is possible in low-lying areas.

A low pressure area was also spotted 1,010 kilometers east of Luzon.

Meanwhile, the rest of Luzon and Visayas will have cloudy skies with light to moderate rainshowers and thunderstorms. Mindanao will be partly cloudy to cloudy with isolated rainshowers or thunderstorms.

Moderate to strong winds blowing from the southwest will prevail over the western sections of Central and Southern Luzon and its coastal waters will be moderate to rough. Elsewhere, winds will be light to moderate coming from the southwest to south with slight to moderate seas.
